- In 2020, there will be a city council election for 3 council seats. Councilwoman Meghan Sahli-Wells, will be termed out of office and cannot return. Thomas Small and Goran Erikkson, will have completed a 4 year term and will probably run again in 2020, for another 4 year term.
- The City Councilmembers serve for a term of four (4) years and are elected at large (all city residents). The City Councilmembers select one of their members to serve as Mayor and this office rotates among the members of Council on their yearly reorganization which occurs in April.
- City Council members by law may only serve two (2) terms or a total of 8 years. After a waiting period of several years, they may run again for office.
- Currently, Jeff Cooper is mayor; in April 2018 Thomas Small (vice-mayor) will be mayor.
